I've been riding trains since the late '50's. Traveled Illinois Central, Northern Pacific, Great Northern, New York Central...all before Amtrak. Then AMTK North Coast Hiawatha, Desert Wind, California Zephyr, Blue Water Ltd, Broadway Ltd, various Metroliners. Now living in Trieste, Italy, riding Eurostar and various interegional and regional trains.

North Coast Limited between Chicago and Missoula, MT in the '60's. Another good one would be the Empire Builder round trip Whitefish, MT to Chicago in 1964 and the Twentieth Century Ltd Chicago-New York in 1966.

Hungary by the future Danube Express Luxury Train

I recently returned from Hungary where I was taking a familiarization trip on the future Danube Express. The Danube Express is a new luxury rail service that will serve central and eastern Europe, beginning in April 2008. The Danube Express invited sellers and promoters of rail travel and rail vacations to experience the service and see their classic rail cars, as well as the progress on their new deluxe sleeping cars.
